School Sports Funding

The government is determined to secure a significant and lasting legacy from the very successful 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games that were held in London and that continued to be so successful in 2016. In order to achieve this and improve the provision of PE and sport in primary schools, additional funding of £150 million per annum was made available.

In our school this amounted to £8,900 for the last academic year. For this financial year it will be approximately £11,008.

We believe that sport plays an important part as it contributes to the health and well-being of our children. Sporting excellence and participation, alongside strong cultural opportunities, go hand in hand with academic standards. We have used the Sport Funding to strengthen and improve our provision in the following ways:

  • To hire qualified sports coaches to deliver specific sports.
  • To attend sport competitions and events and increase pupils’ participation in School Games.
  • To provide professional development opportunities for teachers in PE and sport;
  • To buy quality assured professional development modules /materials for PE and sport

PE Curriculum

A wide range of activities are delivered in school which aim to engage and inspire all children. We are also committed to ensure that all children receive at least 2 hours per week of high quality well-planned PE.

During our residential visits, children are given opportunity to participate in many different activities which may include walking, orienteering, assault courses, gauge scrambling and canoeing.

In the summer term we also hold our annual Sports Day in which we encourage participation of all children in the form of organised competitive races.

Through our extensive links with Culcheth High School, we are able to offer the opportunity for each year group to participate in inclusive activity sessions, where they meet with pupils from other local primary schools and experience a variety of sports. In addition, pupils who are considered to be more gifted and talented in PE, are able to partake in further sessions. Talented children are also signposted to local clubs and events to encourage them to develop their skills.

School sporting experiences are vital to the children’s future perception of physical activity and we believe that children leave our school equipped to enjoy sport for all it’s health and social benefits. Children gain the skills, confidence and experience to succeed at their chosen discipline.

School Sports Funding 2016/17

Money Spent

Sports Development Cost
 Sports coaches £4400.00
 Staff training £2500.00
 Sporting events £2000.00
 Total spent £8900.00

Pupils have benefited from this funding in the following ways:

  • Increased physical skills
  • More available variety of sports
  • More spaces in clubs after school
  • Higher standard of PE lessons

How will we be spending the PE & Sports Funding and who will benefit?

We believe that the money must be used so that: all children benefit regardless of sporting ability; that staff have access to training opportunities and continued professional development.

Funding will be used to improve confidence amongst staff in the delivery of high quality PE lessons across the school. We feel that this is the most effective and efficient way for the funding to have a long lasting and positive effect on future learning and physical development of children within our school.

The following table shows how we intend to spend the sports funding during 2017-18.
